Yarra Council unveils Victoria Street revitalisation plan
City of Yarra has announced a comprehensive revitalisation plan for Victoria Street, targeting infrastructure improvements and enhanced development opportunities along the corridor.
The plan focuses on upgrading streetscapes, improving pedestrian access, and creating new public spaces to support increased density and commercial activity. Council will invest in road resurfacing, new lighting, and enhanced public transport connections to make the precinct more attractive for residential and mixed-use developments.
Key areas identified for transformation include the Richmond and Abbotsford sections of Victoria Street, with particular emphasis on sites near existing transport hubs. The initiative aims to support medium-density housing and ground-floor retail developments that complement the street's multicultural character.
For developers, this signals Council's commitment to supporting appropriate development applications along Victoria Street, particularly projects that include affordable housing components and activate street frontages. The improved infrastructure should reduce development costs and increase the commercial viability of projects in the area.
Council will begin community consultation in June 2026, with implementation expected to commence in early 2027. Developers considering projects along Victoria Street should monitor the consultation process for specific planning scheme amendments.
